Nothing to do with Lady Di, Valentino just retired after a long and glorious career dressing the world's elite. The pleated shoulders were a rarity in early 'seventies design. Beautiful, classic design.

View C makes up quickly, has shaping throughout the waist area, and a very interesting collar, which is folded in half and topstiched.

This is an amazing jacket with an Asian flare.
The upper centre back triangular piece is most easily applied by topstitching in place, rather than the pivoted insertion illustrated.
The jacket meets at the centre front, which is easily altered if you want a wider opening.
I constructed it of a 'shot' poly organza and narrow hemmed the edges rather than applying the bias strips that Beene suggested.
Will definitely make again.

Have only made this interlined skirt, which iI have made three times.
Has an inner grosgrain waist stay, which I love.

My mother made this entire outfit for my sister-in-law's going away outfit. A stunner and fit very well for a perfect size 12.

i made this for my wedding dress in 1978.
I didn't make buttonholes on the front placket because the elasticized waist allows it to be pulled on over your head.
A muslin to check the fit of the neckline is in order.
The sleeve placket was pleasing to make and wear.
The yoke on the skirt fits flat against the body, reducing bulk.

A great retro 70s peasant blouse to make up in 2011!

Only made the top and enjoyed working with some sheers for the trim.
Very easy to make and a nice fit but I prefer something with more design lines.

My mother made this for my sister-in-law. It fit well.
The jacket was finished nicely and the godet skirt was beautiful.

Have made the classic trousers twice, once with gabardine and once with tweed.
Hand stitching the inner waistband, made from lining fabric reduced bulk and was worth the effort.

I loved this dress.
The neckline hugs into your body, so it looks sexy but is not revealing.

Great skirt.
The pullover top has bias trim finishing the edges and is a nice touch. Because I am petite, I shortened the fishtail back of the blouse about 4 inches, which was very easy to do.
Would make again.

Basic shirtdress that was quick to make.
Would narrow the width at the side seams, an easy step

Nice neckline and collar. Wore it dancing in Washinton, DC.
Made up nicely in a silk crepe.

Made a long version with a beaded, sequined bodice and long lined crepe skirt.
Lined the sleeve like a skirt: the separate lining was attached to the shoulder seam and was hemmed just above the fabric's scalloped edge.

Made a short version of wool crepe.
Fitting my shoulders is a challenge and I recommend making a muslin of the bodice, so that the shoulders and back opening fit well.
Straight forward construction and fun to wear.

Made the short sleeved version twice from linen: simply a great fitting blouse and easy to iron.

Made Version B twice from wool challis. Can wear the neckline open or closed. Great for a neckline pin or necklace. I made a loop for the button closing underneath the collar. Super easy buttoned sleeves.
Works under a suit jacket or on its own.

Very nice three quarter cardigan jacket.
Highly recommend.
Made it from a washed silk.

This has been my basic kitchen appliance cover pattern for thirty years.
Great construction and very easy to alter for any variations in appliance measurements.

This pattern is a thoughtfully designed and classic keeper. Have made the short version a few times for friends, who also love it.

A contrasting fabric is fun to use lining the bib, pockets, and trimming wherever. The bib back has ease in the length to allow for shoulder movement.

To save fabric, I created a side seam.
I don't make the buttonhole in the waistband for one tie end to go through: the tie can just
overlap at the back and then this size works for someone larger, as well. More like a one size fits many.

This is a great kimono jacket. Ties are on the bias. Nice fit through the front.
I found the shoulders a bit snugger fit than I expected, given its 'very loose-fitting' rating.

The Platts seem to have captured the essence of the Japanese kimono and haori design, pieces that seem to effortlessly curve around the body.

Made view C: great inverted pleat at back hemline. Easy to line.
Would make a narrow waistband for it, if construct in the future.

Dress A was straightforward to make and very comfortable to wear. The neckline was nicely bound and I made a 'martingale'-type belt at the back with buttons for fun. A cool dress for summer or for a beach cover-up.

A seamstress/teacher made this outfit for her daughter and it was so sexy.
The design is so strong and guarantees coverage in all the right places.
Waiting for a smaller size, JK

This is a great pattern; I have made the short coat twice and would like to try the longer one.
The blouse fits nicely and the skirt is a dream. The skirt is underlined, so be certain that your lining is shrunk well; otherwise, it can pull during dry cleaning. I agree with Penny that this pattern would work in any decade. What about something for evening?

Calvin Klein just designs the best and timeless blouses; both fit nicely, although I did reduce the depth of the kimono sleeves for my short stature. To add some interest to the back of the kimono sleeved blouse, I added a centre back seam with topstitching.
The mitred border on the scarf goes together perfectly; it makes a great gift.

I have only made the long sleeved T shirt and haven't done the double bodice.
It is my go-to knit shirt pattern and I have made it with a mock-turtle and turtle neck.
I have also designed a more scooped front neckline and three-quarter length sleeves.
It is worth the time to make an initial muslin to perfect the fit.

I have made View C in a batik cotton and decreased the width of the cuff to accommodate only two buttons because my arms are short. I also reduced the depth of the peplum by about 2 inches. The points on the collar and the lower corner of the cuff are slightly curved and I used tracing paper to mark the seam line. I have received many compliments. Currently, I am making this in a copper- colored shot dupionni in the Robert Graham style: the front bands and collar band are of contrasting batik, colored copper and turquoise, with charmeuse sleeve plackets in turquoise.

View A is a feminine shirt and makes up well in cotton or handkerchief linen. I made the sleeves plain.

This is my favorite skirt in 45 years of sewing; it is feminine and flattering.
Instead of pivoting the front yoke, I turned the seam allowances and topstitched it in place.
I added a button and loop to add interest at the back waist. The lining attaches to the waist facing and
the godet is easy to insert. The skirt looks great with pumps or boots.

Made the skirt only. Very nicely finished in the pocket area and there is just a nice amount of gathers in the dirndl. Wore this with the short sleeved Perry Ellis blouse, Vogue 2091, which Penny also offers on this site.

This entire outfit is great. Loved the skirt. Made the cardigan jacket twice: very nicely finished inside.
Received rave review for this ensemble and traded the linen cardigan for silk that my nursing supervisor had purchased while stationed in Japan.

Have made the seamed-front long sleeve and sleeveless tops repeatedly. Donna Karan showed this style under one of her suit jackets. It's great under sweaters and the shaping of the armhole is attractive in the sleeveless version.

I agree with Penny: another great Vogue skirt pattern. Made B to wear at tango classes. Added a lining and it is a comfortable and feminine style.

Was very pleased with the fit of the sleeveless and capped sleeve versions. Have used the sleeveless as a camisole; its facing acts as a stabilizing lining.

Constructed the belted version of this coat 35 years ago and started wearing it again last year with many compliments received.
All that pad stitching was worth it and the structure has remained intact. To increase the warmth, I lined it with wool broadcloth

Although my measurements are a size 10, an 8 coat fits well.

Love this slip pattern. The lace is applied first and then the fabric is cut away underneath the area of the slit, which allows for variations in lace width. The folding of the lace at centre front acts as reinforcement and it is very durable.

Have made both half slips, camisole, and full slip. Made the camisole and full slip from batiste and bemberg cut on the bias. The ribbon straps always stay in place.

This is a great skirt, which I constructed from linen. Instead of a narrow hem. I stay stitched and frayed the lower edge and added a 5/8" wide waistband.

I had great difficulty with the completion of the collar. Instructions weren't clear, in the end I had to improvise and create my own instructions and solution. I was very frustrated working with this pattern.

This is a beautiful blouse. The ruffles are really flounces and using tracing paper for the seamlines is advantageous. Updated style of the Victorian poet's blouse.
