5" JAY DOLL WOODEN HEAD HAND PAINTED FEATURES. have a few of these folk art character dolls from England. this one has a tag as well handmade in Morpeth Northcumberland England this is where our history originates from.. she is a clothes peg doll the old wooden kind on a square wood base., folk art floral print dress with blue woolen shawl carrying a nice copper lantern. a staff in the other hand. her name is Grace Darling from Studio Jay.., label on bottom of stand Studio Jay copyright design with a number.. she comes with the box that I received her in and the previous owner had her in.. photocopy of her history attached to the bottom of the box.. Grace darling was born in Bamburgh in 1815 but lived all her life on the Farne Islands where her father was keeper of Brownsman and then Longstone Light.. Grace was a slightly built gentle person when she helped her father row to the rescue of survivors from the Forfarshire on september 7th, 1838, a deed which brought world wide acclaim, medals and gifts.. However her health began to deteriorate and she left the islands etc.. sh died October 20, 1842 aged 26 years old.. lovely history of this charming young lady called Grace darling.... we also have a booklet regarding the Studio Jay Peg dolls of Northumbria. write ups including the gipsy peg doll listed separately. inventory 1641. 5 inches tall. you will see her in the pictures with the gipsy peg doll this is for Grace Darling on the left., she has a nice brim grey felt bonnet and piled up high red hair. inventory 1641 shelf 2 dollroom  filed inv 12 2020 and have two others in their boxes as well with their history etc..  this is a great folk art doll.  filed 4 2022 inv doll rm
