Ndebele people are among the smallest tribes in Southern Africa, but are easily one of the most colorful and distinctive. They are well known for their colorful houses that have distinctive patterns painted on their walls. If I read this correctly, this doll represents a married woman, her apron signifies her status... Just a wonderful collector piece. filed lr cabinet 10 2020 inv.. This lady weighs 350 grams without packaging. I would believe these are hand made individually.. version 2 is notably styled a bit different.. she has a solid cotton black face with a white bead strip down the center of the face and beaded eyes, headdress etc.. the pattern is different on her beaded apron and she has a black faux leather tulip skirt.. beads around the ankles with the silver wire wrapped legs and 3 gold wraps around her neck.. a chain of beads around her neck also. flat solid black feet....Her felt coat is mostly red and green.
