Description
today I have Betty the Bride in her original ensemble, very glamorous and quite vintage circa 1956 This is Deluxe Reading's Betty the Bride, with her bridesmaid, Rosemary. You found them originally in the 50's in the grocery stores, where little girls would tug at Mom's dress, and point wanting that doll she is sold as you see her in the pictures.. she has her pearly tiara but missing original veil. she is wearing her original layered lacy bride dress nice condition and her underwear, a bit loosened, her shoes are getting close to 60 years old and she has her original shoes with the rhinestone circle but needs new elastic, they are there but should be replaced so they stay better on her feet.. she has her arm gauntlets too and her lovely very vintage pearl necklace,, all one piece vinylflex body.. she is about 28 inches long and would have to be shipped surface mail. It would be too expensive to ship her overseas even as surface mail. inventory 318, overall very nice condition doll, nicer than many I have seen over the years. a few spots here and there, just a nice doll. she has an ash blonde tightly curled hairdo, nice blush, nailpolish. and she even has an original off white velvet cummerbund that snaps at waist.. doll was made by Deluxe Premium Corp. in Newark, New Jersey, in 1957. The company was founded by Henry Orenstein in 1951 under the name De Luxe Toy Creations. It made toys for boys as well as dolls for girls. Orenstein sold the company in the late 1950s and the name was changed to De Luxe Reading Toys. He bought the company back in 1964 and renamed it Deluxe Topper Toys. Later it became Topper Toys. Deluxe specialized in making large dolls, 24 to 30 inches tall, that were sold in grocery stores during the 1950s-'70s. Collectors call these Grocery Store dolls. The dolls often had beautiful clothes and accessories, and they were not as expensive as the fashion dolls sold in department and toy stores. The dolls were made with soft vinyl bodies filed dollroom closet.. we have several of these Betty the bride dolls.. ask for current pictures of the Betty Bride dolls that we have on hand. thank you
